Editors’ Note
The second issue of Common House received almost five hundred submissions, and we have the privilege of publishing a few of our favourites. We’re also excited to share that all contributors to this issue happen to be students or recent graduates, and many are based in the Ottawa area. From the start, Common House has been a global, generation-spanning endeavour, but we are grateful for the opportunity to showcase talented, local youth in this issue.
Thank you to the artists whose work makes this issue so beautiful: Madeleine Merritt, whose riso print “Sleepy Ottawa” graces the cover, and Saanya Chopra, whose collages are featured on the landing page. Thank you also to our talented website team, Elizabeth Primeau and Salem Paige, for their hard work on and dedication to making the magazine available to all our readers. As always, we’re grateful to the local literary community for attending our open mics, to the friends we’ve made there, and to everyone who has submitted or engaged with Common House over the past year.
Our work at Common House feels so often like we’re just talking about an unlikely collection of poetry and stories with an unlikely group of friends. We hope it continues that way, and we can't wait to bring you even more exciting work in the future.
See you next time,
The Common House editorial team: Leyla, Jillian, Hayley, Ian, and Youssef
